Constellation mutation

Description

Inspired by :iconspiketail94: and my submission to her competition. Using a mold I made up last year I'm focusing on the 3-dimensional form and the application of them. Last year I used the halves of these stars as decoration and cylindrical constructions to create "Starforms" seen here: fav.me/d6vxods

This time I'm using both halves to build a sort of constellation, stacking them and exploring gravity and space [this is a re-occurring theme for me]. I think this is a really interesting idea as they're not just piled together. Careful thought of the placement and the direction these are in was used as well as assembling. They're just touching, so now it's incredibly delicate. I want to extend the stars to be further away from the base to truly push their limits of gravity and their own weight. I'll be requiring formers to hold them up during construction and drying and carrying these will be terrifying because of their delicacy.

Builder's notes: Because these are two halves put together they have a lot of air inside of them, making them 'star balloons.' A hole MUST be included to let the air out or else they will explode when firing. This is because the air inside expands when heated and with no place to go, pressure builds up until the object can't contain it anymore. I've put a hole in between the the arms of each star. You only need one and it doesn't have to be very large.

Colour Ideas: I want to use the shades of blues and purples that I've been exploring with in my studio for my "Shard Spheres" as explained in my "I wished for a star, but dreamt a galaxy" 2014 seen here: fav.me/d7x3miu

"A shiny glaze would suit these stars perfectly rather than a matte because they will produce a stronger impact with the interaction of the lighting and have a better quality of a cosmic atmosphere.
Solid colours must be used however the thickness of application can vary causing a uniqueness between each star, symbolising that each 'dream' is different even though some may look very similar."

I'm also considering using coloured slip. With this method, I can retain the subtle texture that I created with a sponge while producing colour as the slip is applied to greenware (clay) rather that have the bisqueware absorb the glaze and have little texture produced. This lack of texture is acceptable because it can correspond to the brightness of actual stars. I would want a gradational tone to give a more cosmic experience and to create an individual and unique outcome.
